Rapid Media for Trainers

Training professionals in tomorrow’s world will be media professionals.  Their work will involve more than just the classroom.

They’ll make videos, podcasts and elearning content.  Cheaper technology that’s easier to use makes it possible for anyone to produce content.

This workshop explores the new digital media ecosystem, what makes good media content and how to craft content that truly leads to learning and is more than an information dump.

The workshop is based on Jonathan Halls’ new book, Rapid Media Development for Trainers.

RAPID Writing for eLearning

This two-day course is for learning professionals who are already good writers but want to learn the art of writing for screens such as mobile and desktop computers.

Studies show that people only read about 25 percent of the words on a computer screen –they ignore 75 percent. When it comes to mobile screens, comprehension drops by 50%. So, what can we do to make written text, consumed by learners on a screen, more engaging.

This workshop will look at how people read, characteristics of good digital text and techniques to ensure you content is read and remembered.

ATD RAPID VIDEO FOR LEARNING

This two-day certificate program is based on my book Rapid Video Development for Trainers and is offered by the Association for Talent Development.

Learn how to focus your learning objective, plan a structure to make the learning stick, create a storyboard, write a basic video script, plan logistics, shoot on an entry-level camera so your video looks professional and conduct a basic edit. Also learn the basics of video psychology and tricks that speed up production without compromising quality. This is a streamlined version of my three-day workshop.

This class is ideal if you can’t take three days out of the office. It covers the same theoretical content as our 3-day class but features less practical work and feedback because it’s one less day. It’s a great program and gets good feedback.

TRANSFORMATIVE LEARNING FOR MID-CAREER TRAINING PROFESSIONALS

This is a four-day intensive class for mid-career learning professionals who would like to deepen their skills in facilitating transformative learning.

Drawing on the latest research into how the brain works, this four-day program challenges many of today’s training fads and encourages participants to critically reflect on what works in learning, as evidenced by research.

This workshop is both deeply theoretical as it is highly practical. Participants discuss key theories about how to ensure learning sticks well after the event, drawing on cognitive psychology and neuroscience.

They put this into action with a series of practice session designed to enhance their performance and confidence as facilitators.

I’m a big fan of self-designed curriculum and while this follows a set curriculum, I have built in considerable opportunities for individual participants to focus the content on their individual learning needs.

Contact me if you’d like more information about Transformative Learning for Mid-Career Training Professionals.

WHAT TO EXPECT WITH WORKSHOPS

Each workshop can be brought onsite to your organization. When I do on-sites, I like to customize* them so they are relevant to your organization.

WORKSHOPS VS BOOT CAMPS

Undecided about whether you need a workshop or boot camp?

I call learning events of two or more days with less than 14 people workshops.

Workshops feature focused feedback and we have greater flexibility to mold the course around the participants’ needs. Workshops are informal, fun, and productive.

I call events with more than 15 people boot camps. My boot camps are fun but I work people hard.

Boot camps are designed for larger groups to keep the price down and keep the time out of the office short.
Instead of personal feedback from the trainer for every participant, we use a peer feedback model to ensure learning and critical reflection.

Because they’re shorter we focus more on perfecting the workflow than skills development, providing a framework for participants to develop their skills after the boot camp.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Workshops are informal but intensive. They feature a combination of theory and lots of practical hands-on work.

Some of my workshops follow a Flipped Classroom model where theory is delivered as pre-class eLearning modules, to maximum class time devoted to practical exercises.
